Leather care information
At Svartå Heirloom, we want your handmade leather goods to last a lifetime. Follow these simple instructions to ensure the longevity and beauty of your cherished items, crafted with care.

Common leather care problems
One of the most common issues with leather goods is that the leather becomes dry and starts cracking. With proper care, this can be avoided. Svartå Heirloom wants to help you prevent this issue, ensuring your products will last.

Leather conditioning, adding a water-resistant layer, ingredients are all food grade so it can also be used on wooden utensils and cutting boards.
Leather care instructions
All our products are made from vegetable-tanned leather. They need to be oiled and taken care of their whole life.
How often they need to be oiled depends on each item and how it's used. Svartå Heirloom suggests oiling every few months.
Start by oiling lightly, allow the oil to absorb and then repeat if necessary. When you start to notice the oil is taking time to absorb that's when you stop. It's highly recommended to add a finishing wax or a leather balm.
If applying Svartå's leather balm apply with your hands. Allow the leather balm to dry and then buff with a piece of sheep's wool or a knitted piece of wool.
Svartå Heirloom uses olive oil to oil all of our products, not extra virgin.
You can always bring your item back and we can take care of your product for you too!
